Genoa CFC joins in mourning the passing of Franco Savelli, a passionate rossoblù fan and historian of the club. Savelli dedicated years of research to the figure of James Richardson Spensley, a doctor, pioneer of sports and one of the founders of Genoa. He was among the promoters of the dedication of the street today located in front of the North Stand to Spensley and actively participated in the investigations conducted in London at the British Ministry of War and the Baden-Powell House, which led to the identification of Spensley's tomb. After that important discovery, he engaged with determination, in collaboration with the Genovese institutions, to have Spensley's remains transferred to Genoa and buried in the English Military Cemetery of Staglieno. Despite the project being favorably evaluated on several occasions, the British Ministry of War confirmed its impossibility. With the passing of Franco Savelli, Genoa loses a passionate fan and a careful guardian of the rossoblù memory. To his family and loved ones, the most sincere condolences of the Genoa 1893 ETS Foundation. Genoa CFC will join the Museum of the History of Genoa to honor the memory of Franco Savelli and continue his work of study and promotion of the history of the club. The club expresses its most sincere gratitude to Franco Savelli for his commitment and passion for the history of Genoa CFC. Genoa CFC will always be grateful for his contribution to the history of the club and his growth as a passionate fan and historian.
